Productinformation
Dried Flat Moss (Sheet Moss) – 100% Natural & Untreated
Our dried flat moss, also known as sheet moss or carpet moss, is a 100% natural and untreated moss harvested directly from nature. The moss is supplied dry and has not been preserved, dyed or chemically treated. Pure natural moss, retaining its original texture and natural brown to brownish-green colour.
Flat moss naturally grows in relatively flat, connected sheets, making it easy to work with and suitable for a wide range of applications. It is ideal for Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, floral arrangements, terrariums, model making, crafts, DIY projects and natural decorations.
As this variety is supplied dried, the moss feels firmer and less flexible than fresh moss. When lightly moistened with water, dried sheet moss becomes softer and more flexible again, making it easier to shape and use in creative projects.
Under suitable conditions, dried flat moss may also regain a fresher, greener appearance and potentially start growing again. This depends on the condition of the moss and the environment in which it is used.

Important information about natural moss
This flat moss is completely untreated and harvested directly from nature. As a result, natural materials such as soil, pine needles, leaves, small twigs, roots and other organic matter may be present between or underneath the moss. This is a normal characteristic of genuine natural moss.
Because the moss has not been treated or sterilised, small insects or other tiny organisms, such as ants, may occasionally be present. We therefore recommend checking the moss before use, especially when using it indoors or in a terrarium.
The moss is supplied in a box or polystyrene tray measuring approximately 40 × 30 cm, containing 4 layers of moss. The packaging may vary, but the quantity supplied remains the same.
As this is a natural product, the moss pieces may vary in size, thickness and shape. The texture and colour may also differ slightly between batches.
This variety is supplied dried. As a result, it feels drier, firmer and sometimes more brittle than fresh and moist flat moss.
The colour is completely natural and may range from light brown and brownish-green to dark brown. Some areas may still show green or olive-green tones. These natural colour variations are not defects but are part of the character of untreated natural moss.
How to soften dried flat moss
Dried sheet moss can be lightly moistened with water before use. The moss absorbs moisture and becomes softer and more flexible, making it easier to shape and arrange.
How to use dried flat moss:
-
Carefully remove the moss from its packaging.
-
Lightly spray the moss with clean water.
-
Allow the moisture to soak in.
-
Once the moss becomes sufficiently flexible, it is ready to use.
Avoid soaking the moss unnecessarily. For dry decorations, Christmas arrangements and model-making projects, you can allow the moss to dry again after shaping.
Please note: Moistening the moss makes it more flexible, but it will not automatically turn green immediately. Under favourable conditions, the moss may gradually regain a greener appearance and potentially begin growing again. However, this cannot be guaranteed.
Using dried flat moss in the garden
Would you like to use flat moss as a natural ground cover in your garden, between plants, around trees or alongside stones? In that case, we recommend choosing our fresh & moist flat moss (sheet moss).
Fresh flat moss still contains natural moisture, is more flexible and generally has a fresher, greener appearance. This makes it more suitable for outdoor garden applications than dried flat moss.
Dried flat moss may become green again and potentially resume growth under the right conditions. When moistened, the moss becomes softer and more flexible. With sufficient moisture, a suitable surface and a shaded location, some of the moss may recover and gradually develop a fresh green appearance.
Whether the moss actually starts growing again depends on several factors, including the moss species, the extent of drying, soil conditions, moisture levels, temperature and light exposure.
We therefore cannot guarantee that dried flat moss will turn green again, resume growth or establish itself permanently in your garden.
If your goal is to create a natural green moss carpet or moss-covered area outdoors, our fresh & moist flat moss is the better choice.
How to store dried flat moss
Store dried flat moss in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.
Make sure the moss remains dry during long-term storage. Storing it in damp conditions may encourage mould growth.
Before use, you can lightly moisten the moss again if you want to make it easier to shape or arrange.
Difference between dried and fresh flat moss
Dried flat moss is supplied dry and generally has a natural brown to brownish-green colour. It is particularly suitable for Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, floral arrangements, model making, workshops and other creative applications. When moistened, it becomes softer and more flexible. Under favourable conditions, it may potentially regain its green colour and start growing again.
Fresh & moist flat moss is supplied with more natural moisture and generally has a fresher, greener appearance. This variety is especially suitable for gardens, plant containers and other applications where a green appearance or moist moss structure is preferred.
Both varieties are completely untreated and may contain natural variations in colour, shape and texture.
Please note
This dried flat moss is not preserved or stabilised and should not be confused with the maintenance-free preserved moss used in our moss wall art and decorative moss walls.
It is genuine, untreated natural moss intended for Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, floral arrangements, terrariums, model making, crafts, workshops and other natural decorative applications.
Under suitable conditions, the moss may potentially regain its green colour and resume growth. However, we cannot guarantee regrowth, colour recovery or permanent establishment in outdoor environments.
