Productinformation
Untreated dried sphagnum moss (peat moss) – natural and versatile
Our dried sphagnum moss, also known as peat moss, is a 100% natural and untreated product. It is carefully harvested and dried without additives or further treatment. Pure, lightweight and naturally brown. Available from Mossobject.com.
Sphagnum has a unique, airy structure and an exceptionally high water absorption capacity. It can absorb up to 20 times its own weight in water. Once moistened, the moss becomes soft and flexible while retaining an open structure around plant roots.
This makes dried sphagnum popular with plant enthusiasts, growers and terrarium builders for applications where moisture regulation is important.
What can dried sphagnum moss be used for?
• Cuttings and plant propagation
Excellent for rooting cuttings. Simply moisten the moss before use to create an airy, moisture-retaining environment.
• Moss poles for climbing plants
Ideal as a filling for moss poles. Climbing plants such as Monstera and Philodendron can attach themselves to the moist sphagnum.
• Orchids and epiphytes
Creates an airy, moisture-retaining base around the roots after moistening.
• Terrariums and vivariums
Suitable as a natural substrate, moisture buffer or decorative material.
• Covering potting soil
Can be used as a natural top layer to help retain moisture.
• Floristry and creative applications
Suitable for floral arrangements, natural decorations and a wide range of creative projects.

Important to know
Sphagnum moss naturally contains very few nutrients and is mainly used as a base or supporting material. Plants requiring additional nutrients should be fed separately.
This moss is untreated and has not been preserved or prepared. It is therefore different from the preserved, maintenance-free moss used in our moss wall art.
The sphagnum is supplied dry, making it compact, lightweight and naturally brown. For applications requiring moisture, we recommend evenly moistening the moss before use and gently squeezing out excess water.
As this is a completely natural product, colour, structure and composition may vary between batches. Small twigs, fibres and other natural material may be present. This is normal for genuine untreated sphagnum moss.
For regular moistening, we recommend using rainwater or reverse-osmosis water where possible.
Sustainability and origin
Our sphagnum moss is carefully harvested. Only the suitable upper part is collected, allowing the growing area the opportunity to regenerate naturally.
Due to the natural character of this product and our competitive prices, untreated moss cannot be returned.
